of wood and water
The sculptures in 'Of Wood and Water' explore the dense intersection of place and identity through the lens of varying states of emotional and physical wellbeing. The title is derived from the Indigenous name of Jamaica (Xaymaca) which translates to ‘the land of wood and water.’ In my work, wood and water act as a catchall binary that functions as a stand-in for the various layers of my identity as a Jamaican woman in the diaspora living with and working through trauma and illness.
Exhibition is open at Homer Watson House & Gallery from April 29th to August 7th, 2022
