DesignTO 2023: woven steel

Updated: Feb 22, 2023

Hi Friends,

2023 is already shaping up to be jam packed with new projects and new ways of working.

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to show these two works as part of the DesignTO Window Exhibition programming for their 2023 festival. Thanks to the folks at GV&Co (1206 Yonge St., Toronto) for hosting and living with these works in their space. Although the festival has ended, you still have time to see these, as GV&Co have graciously allowed me to keep it up for a few extra weeks. However, this is the last week, so get out there if you can!

These two sculptures (Alchemy and Shelter I) are part of an ongoing series of experiments I am undertaking to progressively scale up my bead work to architectural scale. These were the two most successful experiments at this scale. We have been hard at work in the studio on the next stage of this scaling up, and we will be installing a huge beaded sculpture in the rotunda at Kitchener City Hall. The installation coincides with the Bring On the Sunshine Community Festival on February 19th, 2023. The sculpture will remain in the space until the end of April 2023.

The work for DesignTO and the sculpture in City Hall were both made possible with the financial support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
