It's been quite the month at Sun Drops Studio!
Lately I've been spending my time beading sculptures and getting things ready for my new website launch. I've also had to rebuild my instagram from the ground up so if you can, please give me a follow @_sundropsstudio and spread the word. In the midst of all that, I got news that I was awarded a Region of Waterloo Arts Fund grant that I will use to complete my work for Of Wood and Water. The bulk of this body of work is funded by the Concept to Realization grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. Receiving such a substantial grant was a major turning point for me while I transitioned from jewellery to making sculptures full time. I've posted some behind-the-scenes shots of the Of Wood and Water sculptures below. To top off the month, I found out I was one of the 35 recipients of the Pat The Dog microgrant program. I plan to use this money to begin research on how to translate my bead-stitching technique into a much larger format using tires or drilled steel balls instead of beads with rope and/or steel cable instead of thread. I've been working on this idea for a while now and it is so exciting to be able to finally dive into the project. I am grateful to be part of such a supportive arts community and can't wait to share my progress on these new endeavours, including my first solo show in the spring! That's all for 2021! Wishing you all a very joyous, restful and healthy New Years and I look forward to what 2022 has in store. -Sharl
